Big Hello and Virtual Hug to the Breeze Hill Community!

It is with great pleasure that I join the Breeze Hill family.  I am humbled to have been chosen to embark on this journey with you as we collectively learn how to support one another through a very different start of the 2020-21 school year.  Nonetheless, rest assured that your child’s academic and social-emotional well-being as well as their safety and health is my top priority.

My personal experience as a student inspired me to pursue a career in education.  After graduating high school, I attended UC Berkeley, San Diego State and National University. I bring with me over 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in K-12. My expertise ranges from teaching math, science, AVID and Spanish to leading in both K-8 and 9-12 school environments. I also have extensive expertise in the areas of English Learners, Dual Language and World Languages.

I am the proud mother of two beautiful girls who will be entering 5th and 7th grade this fall.  My best friend and husband is a police officer for the City of San Diego and veteran of the United States Armed Forces. I have lived in San Diego the majority of my life, my parents bought a home in Southeast San Diego over 40 years ago and they still live there to this day! My family and I love and enjoy being San Diegans, we love visiting our beaches, parks and historical landmarks like Old Town and Balboa Park.

I hope to meet all of you in person soon. But until then, there will be opportunities for us to meet via a virtual platform. You will be getting more information from me via School Messenger in the coming weeks.  I ask for your patience, support, and kindness as we continue to make history during these unprecedented times.

With warm regards,

Sandra Cephas, M.S.Ed.

Assistant Principal's News

Greetings Breeze Hill Family!

I am so excited to join the Coyote Pack as the new assistant principal.  This year marks my 13th year as an educator, including six years as an Education Specialist.  I am a Long Beach/Cerritos (CA) native, by way of Los Angeles, whose teaching career began with the Los Angeles Unified School District.  I relocated to North County in 2012, where I have worked in both Escondido (K-5 & 9-12) and San Marcos (K-5).  My love of community and service has led to me being a part of many organizations and committees as a parent, advocate and educator (general and special education).

Two interesting facts about me.  One, I left a job as a production assistant on a well known TV show to attend grad school and pursue my true passion (teaching).  Second, I worked in the technical education department at Jet Propulsion Laboratory/CalTech (JPL/NASA).  Additionally, my family and I are foodies, travel enthusiasts and lovers of all things related to celebrating cultures.

Throughout my professional career, I have been fortunate to have worked with some pretty amazing educators, families and students.  They have taught me that authenticity, creativity, collaboration, mutual respect, empathy, and relationships are absolutely essential to building a successful school community.

This is an unprecedented time in history.  There will be hills and valleys ahead, but one of the things I am confident of is captured beautifully in a quote by author Idowu Koyenikan. Koyenikan says, “a community that is engaged and working together can be a powerful force.”

Sincerely,

Kamilah Brown, M.S.Ed.
